SUMMER 2019

NHAS STEM CAMP
We partnered with the New Hampshire Academy of Science (NHAS) to mentor Upper Valley students as they designed, conducted, and presented on experiments completed during a three week period. Topics ranged from the effect of chemicals leached from Styrofoam on daphnia to generating machine learning programs to identify the life stages of C. elegans worms on plates.
Our mentors carpooled up to the NHAS almost every day from July 15th to August 7th to guide students in setting up experiments, reading primary literature, writing up their findings, and even on applying to college. Students got to present their work at Hypertherm on August 7th (pictures here.) We are excited for the partnership to continue next year, when we’ll help get our mentees from Mascoma High and other underrepresented schools into the program to experience some hands on STEM!

DARTMOUTH SUMMER CELEBRATION
We teamed up with the Outreach and Communications division of Guarini Graduate School to provide STEM activities for families at Dartmouth’s 250th Summer Celebration.
Families saw how the acidic CO2 produced during cellular respiration changes the color of water with pH indicator, learned about touch receptors in fingers using marbles, and checked out our microscope slides!
We heard from Dean of the Graduate School that the Office of the President thought our event was the highlight of the summer festival! We're so proud of our team. Check out a story on the event here!
